"I promise you that your achievement of the Duty to God Award will provide you with a living testimony that will sustain you throughout your life."
October 2001 General Conference - Priesthood Session

This website is not just another way to track Duty to God requirements for LDS Aaronic Priesthood youth. It is a comprehensive management tool which assists parents, leaders and youth in accomplishing their Duty To God goals. Why create another way to track Duty To God? Well when I was put in a position with specific responsibilities related to tracking Duty to God requirements for a number of youth it quickly became apparent that I could not perform that function with the materials provided me. Maybe someone else has the ability to glance at a large table of requirements, names and checkmarks and determine how each person is doing. I can not. What is contained here is my effort to bring it all together in a manageable method and process. Because of the effort involved in putting this together I wanted to share it with others. Hence this site is available as a free service to anyone who wishes to use it.
So enjoy!

The entire focus of this system is to boil down the status of each youth something along the lines of table shown to the left. From this table we can quickly see that John needs attention while the other two are on schedule. By knowing the percentage of tenure (amount of time in the quorum with 100% being 2 years) and the percentage of their Duty to God requirements completed, we can immediately know if they are on schedule. The application provided on this site will allow you to see this same information for each of your youth. But that's only the beginning. Here's even more features:
Youth's Name Quorum
Tenure
DTG
Completed
John Smith 80% 60%
Bob Johnson 52% 78%
Fred Jones 95% 99%
  • Ability to track Deacons, Teachers and Priests.
  • Nicely formatted individual reports for each youth on file. Click Here for a Sample
  • Summary or management reports available on a quorum, ward and Stake level (read between the lines on that one!) Click Here for a Sample
  • 100% web-based so everyone can access the information and work on it without a need to pass disks or reports around.
  • Fully granular tracking - down the exact percentage of each sub-requirement completed. Click Here for a Sample
  • No cost!

Some frequently asked questions:

Is my information secure?
Yes. We have a sophisticated permission system embedded in the application so that no one gets access to the information except those who are authorized. If a new person signs on then they must get permission from others to join up with any existing group. For a more detailed description of the security process click here. Still uneasy about security? Click Here to get more information.

Why not use one of the many other existing posters, spreadsheets, etc. to track?
Track yes, manage no. I can't take a quick look at any one of them and truly see where the youth is are in respect to how much time they've been working on it or have left. I also can't see where everyone collectively is as a group. This application is a management tool. It helps you to see where everyone is in progress towards their goals and compares that to their time remaining to accomplish that goal.

Can I use this for my entire ward or stake?
Absolutely! The entire program here has been designed to be used in just that way. It's just up to the others to get signed up! During signup they will have an opportunity to link their ward with yours or define a stake level, etc.

Can I get this program to run on my computer and not the Internet?
No. This is a web-based application written specifically to run over the Internet. It was designed that way so that individuals from all over can participate without passing around excessive paper, disks or CD's. When using the Internet everyone is always on the same page all the time. Since it requires no installed software this application can be used from anywhere you have Internet access. Also as upgrades are done and problems are corrected you have no new version to install - it's automatic!

Can I get export the data entered here for use in other applications?
Yes but I'm not sure why you'd want to. If you have something specific you are looking for let us know and we'll try and add it to this application so that everyone can benefit.

Who can use this application?
This website is open to individual youth, parents, quorum advisors, ward leaders and stake leaders. Tracking may be done for just one individual or for an entire stake. It can start with one person and grow over time to include everyone who wishes to participate.

Do you take suggestions?
Yes but not well. Just kidding, actually I'd love to hear from you. If you have any success stories, comments or suggestions you can email them to me directly at webmaster@mydutytogod.org.

Can't something similar to this be used to track scouting advancement?
Hmm, that's an interesting thought. I suppose that could be useful as well. Let me think about it a little more (grin). Check back in a few months.

Is this site affiliated with the LDS church?
No. We are independently run by people who are members of the church and have responsibilities which are aided by this application. (See disclaimer on left)

Can I help?
Maybe. I currently need assistance in the following areas:
1. Beta usage and feedback. Enter your own quorums, wards or stakes info, use the system and give me feedback. This is a work in process and the more input right now the better.
2. Graphic Designer/HTML Developer. I could use some help with the look and feel. To assist in this effort you must be able to write HTML from scratch (NOT with a drag and drop editor). All HTML content is embedded in XSL stylesheets. I will train on the XSL portion but I don't have time to teach HTML. If you are willing to assist in this area then please drop me a line.

What is language is this program written in?
Allright - for you technical types out there it is written as pure Java Servlets using XSL templates for all HTML and XSL:FO templates for all PDF output. It runs on Apache's Jakarta:Tomcat webserver under RedHat Linux.
